I'm Rain Pierre, an artist from Katzie First Nation.
Weave Got You Covered grew from something pretty simple: I wanted there to be a local place people could turn to for beautiful, high-quality woven blankets — blankets carrying original artwork, made to be used, gifted, wrapped around the people we love, and passed on.
My own path into art wasn't exactly planned. I picked up a spray can, painted for the first time, and three days later quit my career to become an artist. Since then, my work has travelled from walls and canvases into public art, exhibitions, community projects — and now, into thread.
There is also a little piece of me that goes into every blanket before it leaves here. I cedar-brush the blankets myself before it is sold — my way of cleansing it and setting good energy before it goes to its new home.
This is my Mom beside me, Keneesh. She's been one of my biggest supporters through every version of this journey, and she reminds me why the things we make, give, and leave with one another matter.
At the heart of all of this is something I try to carry through everything I do: love. I want these blankets to provide warmth, share culture, carry art into people's everyday lives, and become something worth holding onto.
